About
The blonde-crested woodpecker is a species native to South America. It features a fluffy, bright yellow or cream-colored crest on its head and a distinct red patch (malar stripe) on its cheek; this red mark is typically found on males. Its wings and back are black with a yellowish-white scaled pattern. It inhabits tropical forests and wooded areas in Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay, spending its time searching for insects and ants on tree trunks.
